New Solicitors Complaints Procedures Announced
From the 6th October 2010 if you have a complaint about the level of service provided by a solicitor you need to go to the new Legal Ombudsman. The current complaints handler, the Legal Complaints Service (LCS) will no longer be accepting new complaints after this date, but will continue to resolve any complaints raised prior to the change.

Bogus Solicitors Con London Family out of £735,000
Nick Christofi and his family have fallen victim to a firm of fake solicitors who have conned them out of the full £735,000 purchase price for the home in Hadley Wood. The conmen set up a bogus firm of solicitors in order to sell Mr Christofi the property, which was currently in the process of being repossessed.
House Price Indices – Why So Many?
The National Statistician, the Government’s advisory body on official statistics, has begun a review of house price indices to determine whether it is useful to have two different tax-payer-funded indices alongside the various privately prepared indices.

Archaeologists Find Oldest Property in the UK… in North Yorkshire
Britain’s oldest building built 10,500 years ago has been discovered by Archaeologists in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
The circular building measuring 12 feet wide is said to have being made in 8,500BC and was occupied by hunter-gatherers.
The archaeological find has been described as a “sensational discovery” and is believed to be built 500 years earlier than the previous oldest house on the Star Carr site.
London Penthouse Sells For £140m
The six-bedroom penthouse at One Hyde Park, the exclusive 86 property development, has sold to an unnamed buyer for a British record £140m. The stamp duty alone, at 5%, will cost £7m.
June saw rise in demand for property
According to The National Association of Estate Agents, the UK housing market has has seen a rise in demand for property, whilst at the same time housing stock levels have decreased.
The NAEA’s June report shows the number of house hunters registering with agents has increased from an average per branch of 265 to 279. The number of houses available for sale has fallen to 59 from 62, again, these figures are averages per branch.

Government “reviewing” Stamp Duty Relief
The coalition government’s first budget has revealed that the stamp duty break for first time buyer up to £250,000 is to be reviewed, leading to speculation that the relief will be scrapped.
